I am Sabine Wessels and married for 9 years with my Egyptian husband. Since then I have been commuting between Berlin and Bir Sweir – that means: the source of the palms – in South Sinai.
From the first moment I fell in love with the colorful and richly embroidered bags and accessories handmade by the Bedouin women in our region, mainly for tourists to buy. But since the Egyptian revolution, tourism throughout the country is still in crisis and women can no longer sell enough products to continue to feed their families and send their children to school.
In order to make their beautiful work more well known and to inspire even more fans for their products in Germany, I have opened this shop. With a purchase from sandmade, you will receive a piece of handcrafted work done with care and love and make a big difference to our producers and their families in Egypt.
